A Climbing Disclaimer

It is a sign of the times that I feel compelled to include a warning in this journal about night climbing. The two books on night climbing that Julian owns contain no disclaimer. Indeed, Hederatus states at the end that he hopes that his book "will multiply the number of climbers on the Cambridge buildings" (Hederatus, 1970, p.89), and Whipplesnaith positively encourages the night climber to climb whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Speaking for the Night Climbing Society, I wish to point out the following:

Climbing the buildings of the Cambridge colleges is a criminal activity, and if you are caught you will in all probability be expelled from the university, and may even be prosecuted in the courts. But a more serious warning remains - climbing up a building is a risky business, and can lead to falling off the building, which in turn can lead to injuries and even death. This journal is therefore put forward as a means for the potential Cambridge night climber to participate in the activity from the safety of a college computer room. Treat it as a work of fiction, and remember that names, facts, dates, and even descriptions of climbing routes have been changed to protect those who were involved. I strongly recommend you keep your feet firmly on the ground.

A Substance Abuse Disclaimer

On this site the use of the legal substances alcohol, kava kava, nicotine, pseudo-ephedrine, caffeine and nitrous oxide is referred to. Note that the use of these substances, especially if used to excess, can lead to health problems, addiction, and even death (alcohol and nicotine are the ones to watch!).

The use of other illegal substances is also referred to, and apart from health risks mentioned in the context of legal substances, these substances carry the extra risk that if the authorities catch you, you may receive a criminal record and even a jail sentence.
