In the beginning ... I arrive at college to start my final year. Julian comes up on the same day, and we help each other move in. A trip to the countryside ... Julian and I catch a bus out to a village west of Cambridge to visit Adrian and Sue. Julian climbs their house, and Adrian gives us a digital camera for the Night Climbing project. A meeting of old friends ... the rest of the group have turned up. I go shopping several times and go to a party. The first hangover of the season ... I recall the events of last nights party. I also miss my first lecture of the term, but resolve to make it to all of the others. Julian takes a dislike to his new neighbour. The inaugural night climbing society climb ... we head to Clare college and climb the alcove and Julian and Que Sera Sarah do the Clare college-Trinity Hall chimney. It is too dark, so Sarah and Julian go back in the morning and do it all again. Why Julian hates his neighbour ... I have tea with Sarah, and we talk with Julian about why he hates his neighbour, whom he has dubbed 'Crapangus'. I watch Betty Blue and observe first-hand evidence of the accuracy of Julian's nomer. Acting like a tourist ... I have a lie-in despite Christian attempts to sabotage my sleep, and then wander around town on my own acting like a tourist. Watching them watching us ... Julian wakes me up at five, and we go climbing. A security camera gives us the worst fright to date. I'm totally wired ... Julian, Evil Pete and I take a lot of caffeine, and annoy Sarah. I have a headache. Asbestos fingers ... I find Julian trying to break into his own room. We discuss the future of the Night Climbing Society and some other problems. Jon is convinced that I have asbestos fingers. Hot and cold ... I discover that you don't post the solution to tricks or practical jokes you play on the internet if you know the victim reads what you write. I get a cold shock in the morning and listen to some music from my school days. Cambridge lows ... why is this journal called 'Cambridge Highs' when only a few of us climb, and even they don't climb up much? Julian scrambles up onto Trinity Hall's lintel. Kava Kava palaver ... we have our first Kava Kava party. I detect no change. Reality checkpoint ... I go skating with Inline Andy. We see Reality Checkpoint and discover the plaque is missing. I'll tell you why I don't like Mondays - they are mindnumbingly boring. A Touch of Feynman ... Julian explains why he was picking his own lock on the 14th, and gives instructions on how he does it. I am sucked into a plot to think up a practical joke to play on Crapangus. Shopping spree ... I go shopping with Carol Singer. We buy cider and watch an Eastern vampire movie. Chess end games ... Linux Kid thrashes me at chess. I provide a rather simple chess problem for you, dear reader. How long does it take you to spot what's wrong? Cider and Linux ... Linux Kid agrees that a programming idea I have is feasable. I lose at a game of Doom, and go out for a couple of pints of cider with Julian, Jon, and a bunch of other people. Mad squirrels ... I save a mad squirrel and buy some food. The night climbing society has an impromptu meeting and the ladder climb is proposed a suitable climbing project. Snakes and ladders ... this time Jon and Evil Pete head out to scale the King's/Catz ladder climb. I keep my feet firmly on the ground. Jon provides a sum-up of the experience. Crusty and young fogey in love ... Julian and Que Sera Sarah declare their undying love for each other (finally), and Linux Kid gives me the final program. Computer virus goes airbourne! ... we play the trick on Crapangus. Saki and sushi ... Que Sera Sarah throws a Japanese style party, complete with sushi-nori. We drink lots of saki, and traverse the room. Just another day (in the company of ethanol) ... after a normal day of work, I join my friends in Selwyn bar. Jon is violently ill on the grass outside. Drainpipe set-up ... a dull day is livened up by Jon showing off with a drainpipe climb of Caius college. We also have some fast food. Old Ghosts ... I go to a party, feel sad, and have an eerie Hallowe'en experience. | |
