October 14, 2002 - Front Decking.

Here you can see the frames for the front deck all glued in and dry. Now I had to measure up a piece of 6mm thick marine ply to fit on the top and form the bulk of the deck. I borrowed a protractor from the neighbours, measured the angles, and the lengths of the sides, and marked them out on some wood.

This is the piece I cut out. But it didn't fit! It was two centimetres to large on one side, and three centimetres to short on the other, and it wasn't even the right shape, so I couldn't trim it down.

I sat and thought for a while, and then went and got some card from the spare room. This I taped over the deck area, and with a screwdriver I jabbed guiding holes into the cart. Eventually I used the screwdriver to score out the card to the right shape.

The card allowed me to mark up a second piece of wood, which I cut out. Holding my breath I dropped it into place, and it fit perfectly. So I sanded it, mixed up a batch of glue, and fitted it in place (after epoxy coating the underside to protect it from water. Total work time was about an hour and a half.
