Mid-July 2002 - With what do I build a punt?

Now I needed some wood to build the punt with. I went to Ridgeon's in Cambridge, but they looked at me as though I was from Mars (You want how much Douglas Fir? What's that anyway?). Then I looked on the internet again, and found a boat timber company called Robbins Timber. A couple of emails later I had a quote for my wood, and also the West epoxy resin system and carriage. It all came to £613.30 inclusive of VAT. So I sent of the cheque (which was promptly cashed), and waited nervously.

Oh, I also went down to B&Q and bought their cheapest circular saw, jig saw, orbital sander and drill. And from Mackay's on East Road I bought a steel ruler, a right-angle measuring thing and a big pot of marine varnish. Here they are:

Total cost of that lot: about £130.
